Maria Calvy

Maria Calvy is the Principal Solicitor and Director of Pearl Baker Solicitors, also known as PB Law Limited, where she advises individuals and businesses on family law, employment law, civil litigation, Wills and probate as well as disputes between cohabitees specifically including property disputes known as TOLATA claims. Her work centres on helping people and businesses resolve difficult personal, workplace and commercial disputes through clear, pragmatic advice and a highly personal service. 

Family law accounts for most of Maria’s practice, with a particular focus on sorting out financial matters during divorce. She represents clients across a wide range of financial circumstances and is particularly experienced in cases involving substantial matrimonial assets, businesses, property portfolios and assets held overseas. In one divorce involving assets worth approximately £5–6 million, Maria helped secure a favourable settlement after uncovering assets that the other party had attempted to conceal offshore.

Maria also has extensive experience advising both employees and employers. She helps employees negotiate enhanced redundancy packages and pursue claims against employers, including unfair dismissal claims that have resulted in substantial compensation. Her employer clients turn to her for ongoing support with difficult employee situations, employment contracts and workplace disputes. She provides decisive, commercially practical advice and has successfully defended an unfair dismissal claim that could have caused significant reputational damage to an employer operating in a sensitive industry.

Her growing civil litigation and dispute resolution practice focuses on resolving disagreements between individuals and businesses, although she does not handle consumer disputes. Maria also assists with Wills and probate.

She qualified as a Legal Executive before being admitted as a solicitor in 1998. Her long career has included roles with Essex County Council Legal Services and Palmers Solicitors, establishing Archers Law in 2004 before taking over Pearl Baker Solicitors on 1 October 2025 and is a member of Resolution and the Law Society.
